Water – the best secret weapon for your skin
One of the best things that we can do for our skin and our general well-being is to make sure that we are drinking plenty of water and consistently. When I ask clients how much water they drink daily, a common reply is: “I drink lots. It is in my coffee, tea etc.” Sorry everybody. This does not count and it actually has the opposite effect as these can be dehydrating on all your organs including your skin.
Water flushes out the toxins from our vital organs while also carrying nutrients to the cells, which helps the organs function at optimal levels. With regards to the skin, it helps reduce pimples, marks and acne and even delaying the aging process to an extent.
Water is the key to enhancing your beauty and to prolonging your youthful look. Consuming an adequate amount of water everyday gives you fresh, soft and glowing skin. It helps maintain the optimal body temperature, keeping the skin moist. It hydrates and replenishes the skin tissues leading to an increase in the skin's elasticity. This helps delay the signs of ageing such as wrinkles, dark circles or fine lines.
Drinking enough water will also help you get the most out of your skincare. We all know that Hyaluronic acid has amazing benefits for the skin as it can absorb 1000x (4000x when used with a infusion treatment) its weight in water, however, you need to have the water present for it to be absorbed. So if we are paying for these skin care products we might as well do all that we can to get the most out of them.
A great way to help you up your water consummation is add a slice of lemon, cucumber, strawberry or orange to your glass. You may find if you are upping your daily water intake you will feel like you’re visiting the bathroom more often. This will pass! Your body is simply adjusting to the change. Give it a week or two and this will become less frequent and your body and skin will thank you.
